The Promise

This is not a course.

The DTS — Discipleship Training School — is YWAM's flagship program. For over 60 years, it has taken ordinary, hungry believers and brought them into a deep, life-changing encounter with God — and then sent them into the nations to make Him known.

Not more information about God. Not another theology course. A real, personal, transforming encounter with the living God — followed by the privilege of carrying that encounter to people who have never heard His name.

At the end of these five months in Granada, you will not just know more. You will be different. Your faith will be deeper. Your purpose will be clearer. And the world — quite literally — will never look the same to you again.

That city is Granada, Spain. And it is one of the most extraordinary places on earth to spend five months encountering God and learning to make Him known.

Granada was the last stronghold of the Moorish kingdom in Europe. When it fell in 1492, it marked the end of seven centuries of Islamic rule on the continent. Today, the city still breathes that history — in its architecture, in its culture, and in its people. It is a living crossroads of Christian Europe and Islamic North Africa. Nowhere else in the Western world will you find a city where both worlds meet so naturally, so beautifully, and so openly.

For you, this means real, daily, natural access to cross-cultural ministry — not in a classroom, but on the streets, in the markets, on university campuses, and in conversations that can change someone's eternity. You will learn to build bridges with Muslim neighbours, to share Christ across culture, and to love people who have been told all their lives that your faith is their enemy.

And when the day is done? The Sierra Nevada mountains rise just outside the city — Europe's southernmost ski resort, wild and majestic. The Mediterranean coast is one hour away. The Alhambra Palace, one of the most breathtaking architectural wonders on earth, is your neighbour. Granada is a place that does something to your soul — it opens it.

Lecture Phase

12 weeks of deep teaching, community life, personal transformation, and hands-on practical ministry — in the heart of Southern Spain. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

We have heard every reason not to go.

Here is the honest, no-pressure truth about the most common ones.

"I am working and building my career — I cannot leave for 5 months."+

The most fruitful people in ministry we know said exactly this before their DTS. Here is the question worth sitting with: are you building a career, or is your career quietly building a wall between you and your calling? Many graduates return to their professions — transformed, with a clarity that makes them far more effective. Some discover a completely different path they could never have seen from inside the routine. Either way — you do not lose. You gain.

"I have never traveled abroad. I am scared of the unknown."+

That fear is completely normal — and honestly, it is a sign that you are about to grow. Granada is one of the most welcoming cities in Europe, with a thriving international community. You will be part of a close-knit, diverse team from day one. The unknown becomes familiar quickly when you are surrounded by people navigating it with you — and when you know God is the one who sent you.

"I do not speak Spanish — will I be able to follow?"+

Absolutely. This DTS is fully bilingual — all teaching is delivered in both English and Spanish. Many participants arrive with zero Spanish and leave with a solid foundation. Granada also has a significant English-speaking community, so daily life is very manageable from day one.

"How will I afford it? I do not have the money."+

This is one of the most faith-building parts of the journey. Most students have never fundraised before — and are consistently amazed by what God provides. We give you practical tools to raise support from your church, family, and community. Many students find the fundraising process itself deepens their faith before they even arrive. Program fees and payment options will be shared during the follow-up. Do not let money be the thing that stops you — reach out and let us talk.

"I do not feel spiritual enough or qualified."+

This might be the best sign you are exactly the right person. The DTS is not for those who have it together — it is for those who are hungry enough to grow. You do not arrive qualified. "I am not sure I am specifically called to missions."+

The Great Commission in Matthew 28 is not a calling for a select few — it is Jesus speaking to every disciple. The DTS is for every believer who wants to go deeper with God and live a life of obedience. Many graduates return home as better parents, spouses, leaders, and church members — because they have been fundamentally changed by their encounter with God.
